A Letter From Our Founder
Welcome to Afrikaap Radio. We’re a homegrown station built from passion, fire, and the unshakable belief that our voices matter.
I didn’t start this station out of a master-plan to get into radio. I started it because I was told I didn’t belong.
After years of working in government, I applied for a position at a commercial station. Their reply to me? “Sorry, you don’t sound posh enough.”
That rejection lit a fire in me. Because what they called “not posh” was actually the sound of Cape Town. Of home. Family. Culture. Resilience. And I knew, if they couldn’t hear the power in that sound, then it was time to build something of our own.
That’s how Afrikaap Radio began.
We started in 2022 from one mic in a small room. Now we broadcast from South Africa and New Zealand to over 270,000 listeners worldwide.
This station has grown because people were hungry for something real. Something that sounded like them – unfiltered and unapologetically ours.
More Than A Radio Station
Afrikaap Radio isn’t just a broadcast platform. It’s purpose in action.
This is a place where talent that’s been overlooked finds its voice. Where music, mentorship, and media come together. Where people from all walks of life gather around stories that heal, uplift, challenge, and connect.
Over the past three years, we’ve trained nearly 100 new presenters, many with no prior radio experience. Some came in quiet and left powerful. Others brought fire from the start. Together, we’ve become a family, stitched together by courage and love.
Our shows span generations, languages, genres, and life experiences. And each presenter brings something that no algorithm or mainstream station can replicate: pure authenticity and heart.

We mentor emerging talent, support community stations, and create spaces where identity is celebrated, not edited. Whether it’s comedy, youth talk, poetry, gospel, wellness, or even love stories — we host it all, because we live it all.
Where We're Headed
This is just the beginning.
Over the next 5 years, our goal is to train 1,000 media professionals, grow our audience to 1 million listeners, and launch new platforms that serve our people, not just with content, but with opportunity.
We believe media can do more than entertain. So we don’t wait for permission. We move with purpose.
