The AKR Tour My Province team with the Drumbeat Charters Ocean Safari Crew in Hout Bay

AKR Media | 18 January 2026

The AKR Tour My Province crew are five dynamic women passionate about uncovering tourism gems and sharing them with the world. Once again today they found themselves on the road — this time in the beautiful coastal town of Hout Bay. Nestled between towering mountains and the open sea, the Hout Bay community holds stories of pain, hardship, resilience, and joy. But on this visit, the focus was clear: discovering and celebrating a true tourism gem.

A Coastal Community’s Hidden Gem

That gem was Drumbeat Charters, part of Ocean Safaris collection of ocean experiences in Hout Bay. From the moment we arrived, we knew this experience would be special. We were warmly greeted by Michelle Samuels, whose smile set the tone for the day. Even though it was her day off, she made time to welcome us personally, a gesture that speaks volumes about the culture and passion behind Ocean Safaris.

Where Professionalism Meets Warmth

On board, we were welcomed by a crew who looked no older than 25 — energetic, confident, and immediately engaging. But don’t let their youthful appearance fool you. These are seasoned professionals, many of whom have called Ocean Safaris home for over 20 years. From the start, there was no stiffness, no harsh instructions, and no intimidating safety lecture. Instead, we received friendly, family-oriented safety reminders that instantly put everyone at ease.

As the boat pushed off, we were greeted by the powerful swells of the Atlantic. At first, excitement was mixed with nervousness. But with the calm guidance and humour of the crew, the atmosphere quickly softened. Children and adults alike felt included, supported, and safe. The crew moved effortlessly among us, sharing stories of the coastline from local communities to luxury hotels and iconic restaurants, all while reading the rhythm of the sea like second nature.

What stood out most was not just the ocean, Seal Island, or the breathtaking beauty Cape Town offers. It was the people. The skipper and crew have mastered the art of hospitality on water. They know how to care for children, reassure nervous passengers, help those whose stomachs struggle with the waves, and gently assist others with life jackets, all while maintaining a sense of fun and unity. They don’t just work with you, they become one with you.

More Than a Boat Ride, a Shared Experience

For the AKR Tour My Province team, this experience went far beyond a boat ride. It reflected the warmth, professionalism, and deep community pride we encounter as we travel across the province. Encounters like these are what fuel our love for the work we do, and they are exactly what set Drumbeat Charters apart as one of the finest ocean safari experiences available.

Whether you visit Ocean Safaris Charters in Hout Bay or at the V&A Waterfront, the experience remains consistently exceptional. This is not just any activity, it’s a memory waiting to be made.
