The Go George Bus Service played a vital role in the success of the George Sport, Art and Culture Festival. It ensured that residents and visitors could access festival activities safely, reliably and with ease.
As George’s integrated and scheduled public bus service, and a key component of the George Integrated Public Transport Network (GIPTN), Go George demonstrated how well-planned public transport can meaningfully enhance participation at large-scale community events.
Removing Barriers Through Free Transport
Throughout the festival period, Go George provided a free bus service transporting community members to and from festival venues across the city. This initiative removed a significant barrier to participation, particularly for residents from outlying and historically underserved areas.
By making transport accessible and cost-free, more people were able to engage fully in the festival’s sport, art and cultural offerings. This helps to strengthen community presence and shared ownership of the event.

Prioritising Accessibility and Inclusion
One of the most impactful aspects of Go George’s involvement was its accessibility for persons with disabilities, the elderly and those with limited mobility. With wheelchair-friendly buses and inclusive boarding features, the service enabled many individuals to attend festival activities who may otherwise have been excluded.
This approach directly supported the festival’s commitment to inclusivity and affirmed the principle that public events should be accessible to all, regardless of physical ability or circumstance.
Collaboration for a People-Centred Festival
A number of key stakeholders joined hands to make the success of this transport initiative possible . These include the Western Cape Government Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, the George Municipality, MTN South Africa, and the Western Cape Department of Mobility.
This alignment ensured effective planning, seamless transport operations and a shared vision of accessibility, dignity and inclusion. Together, these partners delivered a coordinated and people-centred festival experience that prioritised ease of movement and community wellbeing.

More Than Transport
Through its involvement, Go George did more than support the smooth movement of people during the festival. The service reinforced the broader objectives of the George Sport, Art and Culture Festival: to reduce barriers, bring communities together, and celebrate sport, art and culture in a way that truly reflects the people of George.
In doing so, Go George highlighted the powerful role that public transport can play in building inclusive cities and enabling meaningful community participation.
